♞ Horse Racing: The Sport of Kings (Part one)♞

♞ Horse Racing: The Sport of Kings (Part one)♞

Have you ever seen a horse race in Japan?? Honestly, I have never seen a horse race. NEVER. And I am never into any gambling-ish things, I’d rather buy something that makes me happy with my money. But as one of our partner hotels; Hotel Continental Fuchu is located very near Tokyo Racecourse, it kinda got me wonder about the history and unique culture behind it. Tokyo Racecourse According to Wikipedia (my best friend ever since college), it is believed that the first west-style horse race to be held was in Yokohama, in 1860. It was used to be called “Horse bet” back around when it started and its polarity […]

Persimmons, anyone?

Persimmons, anyone?

Persimmons, anyone? Persimmons are what I think of when there’s talk of a fruit that’s “Far Eastern.” Buddhist monks painted them in their ink paintings. They’re almost in season here in Tokyo, and pretty soon the owners of these trees will be spending a great amount of time and energy shooing away birds and overzealous kids who try to get at the fruit before they do 😉

Yakitori

Yakitori

Yakitori is my dream. Whenever I have a couple of yen, I will think about buying one or two Kushi (skewer). My favorite ones are Tsukune, Nankotsu, Kawa, Hatsu, and lever. I personally prefer shio (salt) teste over tare (saurce) taste, becasue of its sharp and dry tastes, but once I had tried a Tsukune at Bincho in Nogata, I really enjoyed their tare. What are your favorites? Oh I need to buy some yakitories after I finish my work today…. Yakitori yey!

Akihabara

Akihabara

I knew there were many anime figure shops and maid costume cafes  in Akihabara and even though I am not into any of those, I was always interested in just taking a look. And I finally did. There were many anime DVD shops and  figure stores around the station as I knew and I wanted to take  many photo of them, but  felt somewhat reluctant. And only one picture I took was this. A girl in maid-costume on the store roof, waiving and talking to the people on the street. And there were many girls in maid costume or high school uniform standing on the street, inviting you to the […]

SATOIMO – Taro

SATOIMO – Taro

We have a kind of potato called SATOIMO. This is known as Taro in different countries. This is not so popular as other kind of potatos in Japan but SATOIMO is in season now in Japan. I didn’t really like to cook SATOIMO because it is slippery when I peel the skin. . But just because it is in season, I decided to cook:) Actually it was not really difficult to peel the skin. . I cooked with minced meet. After frying for while, I put sake and water to boil. And put Japanese cooking wine, suger and miso to put some taste. . . YUMMY!! . I will cook SATOIMO […]

Shimokitazawa Curry Festival

Shimokitazawa Curry Festival

Last week I went to the Shimokitazawa curry festival. The Shimokitazawa Curry Festival is a festival in Shimokitazawa featuring curry. The festival was 9 days long. Over 100 restaurants including bars, bakeries and even ramen restaurants, participated the event and served some special curries. You could get a map and find the location of the restaurants. There was a stamp rally during the event, so many of them went as many restaurants as they could. They could win special goods, which were T-shirts and curry spices. I love Moona`s Indian inspired curry so I went there as usual. I also tried a shrimp soup curry in Pripirika. They were so good. […]
