Golden Town.

Have you ever been to Golden-gai(town) in Shinjuku? That is where many tiny bars in such a tiny area. They have been there since 1950 and used to be a red-light district until 1958, until anti-prostitution law was enforced. Now this area seems to draw more of public attention and many out-of-towners enjoy hanging out. I have visited a few of them, however, drink was rather expensive and the bartenders I talked to were not very interesting to me. I may try different bar if I have a chance again, but I have to make sure that I am rich enough not to get upset if the night I spend […]

Monjayaki? Tokyo style snack, Oishii yo!

Konnichi wa ! The Japanese gastronomy is wide and various, but when seen through foreigners’ eyes, it is often reduced to sushi, sashimi, râmen and okonomiyaki. But there so much much more variety, even among these classics dishes. For example, okonomiyaki : Did you know that this specialty of the Kansai region has a “cousin” in the Kantō region : The Monjayaki ! The Monjayaki (もんじゃ焼き) – often called simply “monja” – is a type of Japanese pan-fried batter with various ingredients. It is similar to okonomiyaki but monjayaki is made with a dough more liquid than is okonomiyaki. The ingrédients (Cabbage, carrots, vegetables, meat, fish, shrimps, mochi, cheese… etc) […]

Getting to and from Haneda International Airport

Haneda isn’t far from central Tokyo so it’s quick and easy to access. It used to be for domestic flights only but from a few years ago it started handling international flights as well. There are a couple of ways to access Sakura House Office and central Tokyo from Haneda. 1. Limousine Bus (one way to Shinjuku: 1,230 yen) Limousine buses depart every 20mins from Haneda and arrive in Shinjuku in about 30mins. If you’re travelling with lots of luggage this is the easiest way to get to Shinjuku. Sakura House Office is a short walk from Shinjuku Bus Station 2. Keihin Kyuko Line + Yamanote Line (610 yen) Take […]

Underground music shops around Sakura House Office.

If you are into collecting vintage records, you’re sure to have visited those record shops in Nishi-Shinjuku, the area where Sakura House Office is. It is quite surprising to see many record or CD shops are still running their businesses. Now everyone downlords music to the computer or phone. Who really bothers to come out to the shop to buy records, or even pay money for music??? It feels like, once people started enjoying downloading music freely or watching music clip on youtube, people became unable to appreciate music as much as they used to be. So, it is nice to know that there ARE people out there who still […]
