Are you looking for something special to do for the next weekend? Well, it`s almost late April, and spring allows us to attend to many beautiful open-air events. The one i wanna talk you about today is the Yayoi Masturi, which takes place in the wonderful setting of Nikko, not too far from our city!
Held from the 13th until the 17th of April, this is a traditional festival dating back as far as the 8th Century, and even today ancient customs are faithfully observed and the ritual must be conducted accordingly. During its main event, 12 flowers-adorned floats coming from each town parades to welcome the arrival of spring.
In addition to the characteristic rituals and clothes, the festival also features a procession of portable shrines, and many performances of traditional music “follow” all of the floats during their route through the crowd.
If you add to all of this the extraordinary atmosphere of the World Heritage Site of Nikko, you can imagine the magical atmosphere surrounding this festival…
