Have you heard of the Ushiku Amida Buddha before (picture shown below)? Personally speaking, I still feel this famous statue is still underrated because very few foreigners know about this place.
The Ushiku Daibutsu is located in Ibaraki Prefecture Japan and stands at 120 meters tall! The statue depicts Amitabha Buddha (also known as the The Buddha of Immeasurable Light and Life) and is made of bronze.
The other cool thing about this place is that you can ride an elevator to the viewing gallery which is 85 meters high. On a clear day, you’ll even be able to see Tokyo Sky Tree!
You can easily get this the place from the Ushiku Station on the JR Joban Line, which will give you a 40 min direct access from Nippori or Ueno stations in Tokyo. We actually have a Sakura Hotel in the Nippori area (with tatami style rooms), if you plan on staying a night before you head out or come back from Ibaraki. I personally recommend this Hotel because they have 24 hour cafe and all you can eat breakfast!
