The first 2 things that pops into our head when searching for a new accommodation is where it is located and what is around that area. This blog will give you an idea of the interesting spots you can find if you plan on moving to Kameido.
The word ” Kameido ” when written in Japanese, compromises of two kanji characters.
The first character being “KAME” “かめ” “亀”, which means ” Turtle ” and the second character “IDO” “いど” “戸”, which means door. Some of you may be wondering what is the connection between turtles and doors, or if there even is one, but actually there is!
Back in the day, this area was actually called “亀島” “kamejima”, “jima” meaning Island because the land resembles the shape of a Turtle as shown below:
Kameido is located in an area that will give you an amazingly close view of the famous Tokyo Sky Tree! Regardless of the time of the day, you will definitely see an amazing view of Tokyo Sky Tree. Personally speaking, living in an area that also has a tourist attraction gives you a chance visit nearby interesting spots even though you have a busy schedule.
As a foreigner, the other thing that you are going to love about this place is that there is a huge “Donki” store!
For those of you who are not familiar what kind of store “Donki” is discount chain store through out Japan that has a wide range of products from basic groceries, electronic items and various kinds of clothing (cosplay too).
Finally, you have local stores that sell cheap fruits and vegetables, which is ideal for those who cook. Personally speaking, finding cheap fruits in Japan is not easy but you can find local stores here that sell them at a reasonable price.
