For those foreign guests that live in shared accommodation such as guest house or share house at Sakura House, residents have regular gatherings such as Christmas dinners, which really help one to overcome that common home sickness and feel at home away from home.
From my personal experience of having lived in Japan for over 8 years, when it comes to foreigners and what they eat for example for Christmas Eve dinners, chicken or pizza is a must !
I have always wondered why these two food items are popular and I found out that, theses are the two items ( sometimes sausage is commonly found ) are sold in bulk during a festive season such as Christmas time.
On Christmas eve, one of our Sakura House staffs had the opportunity to join a Christmas Eve dinner with the residents that live in a share house. Everyone decided to contribute and in the end, everyone had lots to eat and drink.
Coming to Japan for the first time sometimes can be a challenge especially when it comes to making close friends due to the Japanese language barrier. However, you will not be alone facing this is. While you are trying to get to know the language you still have the chance to communicate, make new friends and in most cases, you can meet someone who speaks the same language as you in a share house or guest house.
Sakura House can also advice you, for example, during the reservation process, which share houses or guest houses would match your social needs. Moreover, we have cases where new residents would like to interact with a small number of people and sometimes we have cases where they want to mingle with as any people as they can.
