小竹向原 (Kotake-Mukaihara) is a comfortable residential neighborhood. While there is only one restaurant, there are two grocery stores, two convenience stores, a book shop, a coffee shop, a salon, and a drug store. One of the grocery stores has an endless stream of customers and good prices so everything is extremely fresh; it's easy to cook and save money. The subway station is very close to the house and makes it easy to get around the city. Road noise can be an issue depending on the room, but mine was quiet. The shower has good pressure and is hot. The kitchen is convenient, with gas burners. Hikawadai is one stop away and it has the large Johoku-Chuo park with tennis courts and baseball. That area also has a McDonald's, a pizza take-out, and small Japanese restaurants. Getting to Ikebukuro station takes very little time with the subway line.
