Fukutoshin line - for a convenient, connected stay
Finally completed in June of 2008, the Fukutoshin line is a new subway line that connects the major city centres of Shibuya, Harajuku, Shinjuku and Ikebukuro.
The new 20km line allows easy access to 16 stations stretching from north west to southwest Tokyo and the express trains offer a convenient alternative to the crowded Yamanote line. Living in close proximity to the Fukutoshin line will allow you travel easily between universities, shopping, nightspots and also provides links outside of Tokyo (via Shinjuku, Ikebukuro or Shibuya). Formerly an agricultural region, the area around the Fukutoshin line has been continuing to grow over the last twenty years and is steadily becoming one of Tokyo's prime locations.

The town of Narimasu is located in itabashi, north-west Tokyo, on the border with nerima ward. Around the bustling station area there are shopping streets, a Daiei supermarket and fast food stores. A roughly ten minute walk from the station will take you to Hikarigaoka park. The park, formerly an airfield, is now home to a tennis courts, a baseball ground, camping ground and bird sanctuary.
The area around Heiwadai used to be agricultural and when the station opened in 1983, the above ground exit was surrounded by cabbage fields! Naturally though, after the station opened the area became steadily more and more developed and the construction of new buildings has gradually replaced the fields. Nowadays the station area is alive with many mansion apartment blocks and a shopping area that features supermarkets convenience stores and fast-food restaurants.
As with Heiwadai this area used to be mostly fields however following some extensive urbanisation, Hikawadai is home to a several fast-food restaurants, a pachinko parlour, convenience stores and a "Tsurukame land" supermarket which is owned by the UK's famous Tesco supermarket chain. Hikawa shrine can be found roughly one minute's walk from the station.

Kotake-mukaihara station took its name from the nearby towns of Kotake and Mukaihara, separated by the boundary between Nerima and Itabashi wards. Originally serving as a station for both towns, the area around the station is mostly residential. The nearby art and music colleges however mean that there are many students in the area and as a result a number of convenience stores and restaurants have sprung up.

Quiet and relaxed with close proximity to the campus, Zoshigaya is a great place to live for those studying at Gakushuin University. Not far from the station you can find Kishimojin hall. Built during the Edo period and surrounded by 400-year-old gingko trees, Kishimojin is a shrine that is said to protect pregnant women and bring good luck and fertility. A little further away is another, larger, temple called Gokokuji that acts as an imperial mausoleum.
At Shinjuku San-chome station the Fukutoshin line arrives in the heart of one of Tokyo's most famous city districts. Whether you are looking for the shopping or dining in west Shinjuku or the nightlife of the (in)famous Kabuki-cho district, Shinjuku is the place to be. JR Shinjuku station is the busiest station in the world and so naturally provides great transport links across Tokyo and further afield.
Kita Sando station is in the Sendagaya region of Tokyo. Flanked by the Shinjuku Gyoen gardens, this area is surprisingly green despite being only 10 minutes' walk from Shinjuku. This area was also the site for much of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic stadium and buildings such as the national gymnasium still regurlarly host sporting events.
Don't let the station name deceive you, this station is considered to be an interchange of Harajuku station. The youth centre of Tokyo, Harajuku is an eclectic mix of street fashion and pop-culture that is famous world-wide. Whether you want to spend a day relaxing in Yoyogi park or shopping on the frenetic Takeshita doori, you are sure to have a great time. With close proximity to both Meiji shrine and the maze-like shopping streets of Ura-Harajuku, the Sakura House premises in the area are hugely popular and a great place to meet new friends. Without a shadow of doubt, Shibuya is one of Tokyo's greatest (and most affordable) night spots. Packed with bars, restaurants, karaoke and nightclubs, the area around centre-gai explodes at weekends as thousands of people descend on the city looking for a good time.
If you're more of a day person however, Shibuya doesn't disappoint. Home to famous department stores such as 109 and Marui "OIOI", you are spoilt for choice when it comes to designer fashion. Further more a short walk along Aoyama-doori will take you to the trendy Aoyama and Omotesando areas.
