Mobile phones from countries outside of Japan (including GSM phones) are not likely to work in Japan due to the different technologies.
Most long term residents of Sakura House buy their own mobile phone in Japan which is usually quite cheap; however an ID card (alien registration card for non-Japanese) is required so you may choose to rent your phone.
If you are visiting Japan , renting a mobile phone may be a quicker and easier way to stay in touch with your friends and family. You may also wish to rent a phone for a short period until you are able to buy your own.
