ABOUT
SAKURA HOUSE
We provide the kindest housing and services for foreigners in Japan with warm hospitality.
It all started in a four-and-a-half-tatami-mat room
SAKURA HOUSE started 30 years ago with a single bunk bed in a 4 and 1/2 tatami room of a house in Harajuku.
At that time, there were very few foreign tourists in Japan. Therefore, the infrastructure for foreigners to live in Japan was not as well established as it is today, and it was often inconvenient and expensive.
Finding Housing for Foreigners
Back then in 1992, in order for foreigners to rent an apartment in Japan, one had to prepare for hundreds of thousands of yen. It was in general required to pay a deposit of 2 month-equivalent-rent, a key money of 2 months’ rent, an agent fee of 1 month’s rent, and the first month’s rent in advance; for a total of 6 months’ rent, or hundreds of thousands of yen, but also a guarantor.
Founding of SAKURA HOUSE
At a time when there was little traffic to and from overseas and few residences for foreigners, SAKURA HOUSE was founded out of a desire to make the foreign visitors to Japan not only safe but also comfortable.
We have reviewed the cost of renting an apartment for foreigners, only stay fee are required to move in.
Listening to the needs of our residents staying there and the demands of the community, we have set up one by one by hand with the same attitude we have had since the establishment of the company. Today, we manage about 100 share houses and apartments in Tokyo and Kyoto, and have grown to welcome guests from over 100 countries every year.
