What’s Going On in Sakura House – June 2025 Edition

Spoiler: We ate snacks and got emotional

June has arrived, the month when Tokyo starts to feel like a giant rice cooker, and What’s Going On in Sakura House suddenly becomes What’s Going On At The Nearest Convenience Store With Air Conditioning. But fear not! We’ve been busy(ish), and we’re here to tell you all about it.

Eid Mubarak! A Snack-Fueled Visit to Friendly House

On June 7th, we ventured out (yes, outside in the heat) to SAKURA HOUSE SHIBUYA YOYOGI UEHARA Friendly House to wish everyone Eid Mubarak! What’s a celebration without food, right? We brought halal snacks and desserts we picked up at the Halal Market at Tokyo Camii Mosque (10/10 would shop again), we dropped by to spread some cheer and sugar.

Our residents graciously accepted our offerings, probably because no one can say no to baklava. It was a sweet little gathering (literally), and a reminder that sometimes, the best way to bring people together is through snacks.

The Bittersweet Goodbye (Mostly Sweet Because, Again, Snacks)

That same weekend, we put on our party hats (okay, not really) and held a goodbye party for one of our beloved residents. After staying with us since last year, he’s off to Osaka for work. Yes, Osaka, the land of takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and… slightly worse humidity than Tokyo.

We said thank you, wished them well, and celebrated their next adventure the best way we know how: by eating food that someone else prepared. We’ll miss him! Until they visit and bring us omiyage.

What’s Next: Welcome Party Incoming!

And because we’re gluttons for punishment (just kidding we actually like meeting you all), we’ve got another event lined up! On June 21st, we’ll be holding a Welcome Party in the SAKURA HOUSE Shinjuku Lounge for all the awesome folks who’ve moved in this June. Expect food, drinks, and questionable small talk warm conversations and new connections!

Come by, eat, drink, and meet your fellow residents. It’ll be fun! (We promise. There’s food.)
