Spring In Tokyo: Cherry Blossoms and Where to Stay
Spring has finally arrived in Tokyo, and for people familiar with spring in Japan, that means two things: hay fever, but also more importantly, cherry blossoms!
For Japanese people, spring holds special significance. The cold days are behind us, the sun feels warmer, and all across the city, these soft pink blossoms start popping up like little signs of hope. The streets get a little brighter, people seem a little happier, and suddenly everyone’s outside again – walking, taking photos, or just sitting under the trees with friends and snacks. It’s honestly one of the best times to be in Japan.
If you’re living in Tokyo (or thinking of moving soon), this is the season to enjoy the city at its most beautiful. And if you want to be close to the best cherry blossom spots, we’ve got a few places you might want to check out.
If you’ve ever been to Yoyogi Park during hanami season, you know it turns into one big spring celebration – blankets everywhere, people playing music, eating, laughing, all under a canopy of pink. Our sharehouse near Yoyogi Koen is just a short walk away, so you can go for morning strolls or meet up with friends for a picnic without needing to squeeze onto a packed train. It’s a super chill neighborhood too – perfect if you like being close to nature but still central.
This one’s for the people who love a bit of peace and quiet. Shinjuku Gyoen is one of the most beautiful parks in Tokyo, and during sakura season, it’s unreal. Big open lawns, trees everywhere, and a mix of different cherry blossom types so the season lasts a little longer. Our Sendagaya house is tucked away nearby, so you can just walk over, find a shady spot under the trees, and breathe it all in.
If you’re into cute cafés, riverside walks, and those “wow” views you see all over Instagram, Nakameguro during cherry blossom season is for you. The river is lined with cherry trees on both sides, and when they bloom, the whole place turns pink. Lanterns go up, people walk along the canal with drinks in hand, and the vibe is just… perfect. We’ve got houses close by, so you can enjoy it any time – not just on the weekend.
Make the Most of This Short, Beautiful Season
One of the sad things about cherry blossoms is that they don’t last long. While they are beautiful, and everyone in Japan gets very excited to see them, after a week or two, and they’re gone. That’s why people in Japan make such a big deal about them – it’s all about enjoying the moment while it lasts.
If you’re looking for a place to live this spring, and want to be near the trees, parks, and rivers where it all happens, we’d love to help. Our houses are move-in ready, monthly rental, and full of friendly people from all over the world.
Let us know what kind of spot you’re looking for – and maybe we’ll see you under the cherry blossoms soon 🌸
